Addiction: Yes. About 60 to 70 percent of people who use drugs have an associated behavioral condition and the most common one is anxiety disorder and bipolar disorder. Although the reason is not yet fully explained how one begins to abuse drug we do know that people self medicate with alcohol, marijuana and pain killers to alleviate the onslaught of anxiety. Treat anxiety correctly and avoid addiction.

Yes: If you have a family history of alcoholism or drug addiction, your choice to use any of these substances is risky, you would be higher risk for addiction. Using a substance to relieve a negative emotion such as sadness, anger, etc. Is also a warning sign for addiction. So your choice is to seek support, or adopt healthy coping mechinsims to deal with these feelings. Once addicted control is gone.

Triggers for drugs: There are things in your control that make adiction more likely: peer pressure, places you hang out, and things that you do. There are heritable factors that are outside your control, but behavior modification is within your control.
