Multiple Factors: In addition to the previously mentioned risk factors, genetics plays an important role. Regardless, never being exposed to the offending item insures the highest chance of not becoming addicted. Needless to say, there are many opportunities for exposure. Also, there are many who are exposed but because of strong family support, moral conviction and a variety of other factors, do not become addicts.
