Pain and swelling: Pain and swelling will be your first symptoms and this can sometimes result in an inability to walk. See if you can get in with a foot and ankle specialist to have it thoroughly checked for any other issues besides just a sprain.

Ankle sprain: Swelling and pain are the first signs of an ankle sprain. It is more common to sprain the outside part of the ankle rather than inside, back, or front. Swelling generally occurs around the area of sprain and bruising may be present too. Getting it checked out by your pcp or referred for further evaluation for severity and treatment.
