Seems to be true: I think if it is going to be done it should be done in the newborn period with a local anesthetic. The infants often sleep through the procedure, it heals within a week and rare if any problems are encountered.

Circumcision : The other option is not to circumcise. It is an elective procedure (you don't have to do it). In this case you will just need to teach your son proper hygiene and how to check for abnormalities with respect to his penis.

Other opinions....: I agree with the aap guidelines, but to be fair, in other countries, medical experts dispute the conclusion and the data.So there circs are often not recommended. My experience and interpretation of the research agrees with the benefits outweighing the risks.

Infant Circumcision: Recent research found that there was not enough evidence that circumcision definitely prevented UTI and STD and hence currently circumcision is considered to be more for religious or family preferences. The coverage for the procedure by the insurances has also undergone a slight change recently. But many still are strong in the belief that there is a definite benefit from circumcision
