Labels Premature: I think the "why" part of your question is the place to start--any label must flow from that answer. Three possibilities strike me as hunches to start with: an untreated chronic depression; unresolved grieving over a major loss; and, a protective coping strategy that has evolved in response to major disappointments. Find a therapist and begin working on "why"--the right description will follow.
