What to do if i have a referral for a chest x-ray. does it have any expiry date?

Why wait?: A referral for a chest x-ray is usually made in response to a clinical concern. Why would you want to delay getting one? I think most reputable practices would have a question if you showed up 6 or 12 months after such a referral was written. Even a couple of weeks would be a concern.

Preauthorized?: Payers that preauthorize or precertify imaging studies often include an expiration date. Unlike prescriptions for medication, there is not standard expiration date for imaging orders.If there is question about the validity of an order received for imaging services, contact ordering physician.Prescriptions for drugs valid for six months from date on the prescription, controlled substance 28 days
