A member asked:

I can't go to a cardiologist without a referral. i went to the er two days ago with chest pain. the dr pressed around on my chest and said it probably wasn't heart related since it hurt when being pressed on. any advice on how to alleviate the pain?

NSAIDS: Tenderness in the chest wall is usually reassuring that it's not heart related. Often, the muscles, bones or connections between them will be the source of pain. If your primary doctor says it's OK, non steroidal anti inflammatory medications (NSAIDS), such as Naprosyn or Ibuprofen will often relieve the pain.
