Cramp: Charlie horse is usually used to refer to a muscle spasm, or cramping. Your friend may want to try a banana a day for a few days, in case he/she has low potassium causing the "charlie horses.".

Charlie Horse: When you exceed the endurance capabilities of a muscle, it locks up in order to protect itself from tearing. (otherwise, continued use would cause the tear.) this type of spasm or cramp is known as a charlie horse.
