My teeth are sensitive after getting my braces off. how long will this last?

For a short time: Often gingivitis happens with braces. Once the braces are removed the gingivitis improves and gums shrink. If this causes the sensitivity, try a sensitive toothpaste. The toothpaste helps within a couple weeks. Also the teeth can be slightly mobile causing sensitivity. Continue wearing the retainers and the teeth will stabilize over time and reduce sensitivity. Have the dentist check for decay.

Try a flouride rinse: This usually settles down after a month or so. Rinsing with a flouride solution, available in drug stores, may help. If not your dentist may be able to provide a treatment in office to help you.
