A member asked:

My daughter had her tonsils out 11 days ago when should she be able to eat solid foods without it hurting?

A few days: I tell all of my tonsillectomy patients that the pain is going to last approximately two weeks. Usually three-year-old children get better a lot faster but it's not unusual to still have discomfort for two weeks.

Softer diet: A soft diet with no acidic foods may help to relieve her pain. Avoid foods that are difficult to swallow. Vanilla ice cream and milkshakes and then slowly increasing solid soft foods is one approach.
