Not the best thing: Ibs is not caused by infections so antibiotics should not be a treatment for the condition. In fact antibiotics make ibs worse because they kill the beneficial gut flora. Try a probiotic supplement to rebalance your gut bacteria and then look into elimination diets to find the foods that might trigger flairs. The most common is gluten. Try a 3 week complete gluten free diet.

Xifaxan/IBS: Recent trials showed that trial of antibiotics can relieve symptoms among patients with ibs since some of these patients might have a component of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (sibo). Suggest to try this medication as advised.
