As much as they: Are comfortable with, without causing physical trauma, foot damage, cardiovascular stress, BP elevation, aggravation of other medical problems, etc. With the proper precautions walking is excellent exercise for people with diabetes and also helps with weight reduction, glucose control, BP lowering and lipids as well. Make sure to wear proper footwear, stretch before and after, warm-up/cooldown.
