Needs to be checked: Further check up is recommended. A fine needle aspiration(fna) biopsy is the next step when there is doubt about cancer which can be found in any mass /nodule that shows up in the thyroid gland. You should see an endocrinologist for further guidance.

Possible: Nodules that size although most often not cancer need to be evaluated further. Bilateral or multiple nodules are more likely to be benign. Next step should be fine needle biopsies (fna). This is just what it sounds like- a small needle placed into the nodule to obtain some cells for pathology. If benign, can leave alone. But if having symptoms simply from size of nodule might still need surgery.
