About 3 weeks: Usually does not last over 3 weeks however it depends weather you have any co-morbidities that could aggravate the intraarticular bleeding and the degree of bleeding you had after the surgery, more bleeding more time that takes to the blood to reabsorbed. Are you taken any Aspirin or nsaids?

Can be a month: It is very common to have swelling after a lateral release. Sometimes the swelling will last for up to 6-8 weeks. Usually it subsides within a month. Occassionally, patients with very swollen knees will require the fluid to be aspirated from the knee (removed with a needle.).
