Inflammation still: You can still be making fluid from the lateral release tissue, synovitis, or from articular cartilage degeneration (arthritis). Not all swelling goes away after knee arthroscopy if you have abnormal tissues inside. It may however go away and sometimes takes 6 months or more. Anti inflammatory injections sometimes help with the swelling, continue icing, & a knee sleeve may help.

Knee swelling: The swelling may be from the meniscus repair if it did not heal or tore again. Suggest a MRI with gadolinium injection to evaluate the tear.

Knee scope: Knee swelling following a lateral release is not an uncommon complication. If the swelling is greater than expected there may be a bleeder from one of the lateral geniculate arteries that may need to be cauterized.
