Multiple triggers: Eye allergies are due to direct contact with pollens (tree, grasses and weeds), danders (dog, cat), dust mites and molds. Symptoms usually include itching, swelling and redness of the sclera (white part of the eye). Zaditor (ketotifen) and naphcon are excellent otc treatments. Patanol, Pataday and Optivar are effective prescription medications.

Itchy: The itching caused by blepharitis and allergy are similar and can best be determined by a thorough eye exam. Dry eye usually causes a foreign body sensation or gritty/burning feeling. You can try zaditor (ketotifen) over the counter for allergy, but if this does not work, see your local eye doctor for an appointment. The fall allergy season has already begun.
