A member asked:

Can one feel ketones in his mouth during hypoglycemia?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not likely: Ketones occur in patients with type 1 diabetes who have very high sugars and are producing ketones as a byproduct of fat metabolism. It does not occur in hypoglycemia. I have never heard of anyone "feeling" ketones in the mouth. High ketones that include acetone can cause a "fruity breath", and perhaps affect taste, but not feeling.
