A member asked:

My 15 mo old son is in hospital for hypoglacemia. the critical sample discovered he has ketones in his blood. what does ketonic hypoglacemia mean?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Ketosis & hypoglycem: Usually seen in young children between 10 months to 4 years. Ketosis is having ketone bodies-acidosis while hypoglycemia is low blood sugar. First episode is usually after vomiting and diarrhoea with dehydration. If it happens frequently needs to be checked further. First time the efforts are usually getting blood sugar up and hydrating the child. As the brain can use only glucose, it is important.
