Progression: Kyphosis is normal in the thoracic spine. A cervical, lumbar or abnormally large thoracic kyphosis may worsen over time. Kyphosis can cause pain, poor posture and occasionally nerve and spinal cord symptoms.

Depends: Depends on how severe it is and in what part of the spine. In the mid back it may be a cosmetic (appearance) problem. The the neck and mid back, it can lead to the spinal cord to malfunction. In the low back it can prevent good posture and cause severe low back pain.
