Liver infection: Hepatitis b is an infection that targets the liver. It is usually transmitted by sharing needles when using drugs or unprotected sex. Chronic hepatitis b can severely damage the liver over time and can also cause liver cancer. Fortunately most people get over the infection on their own but some people do need antiviral medications to try and treat the infection.
