Defined below: HBV active - you have no immunity, the virus is replicating at high levels and you have ongoing liver damage. HBV carrier - you have developed immunity, the virus is replicating but usually at lower levels and lower degree of liver damage. HBV inactive - you have immunity, the virus is not replicating and you have no liver damage. HBV carriers are at more risk because of length of time with HBV
