Tooth or gums?: That is the question. If the soreness is at the gum line it could be toothbrush abrasion or abfraction ( from premature contact) or recession. If the soreness is coming from below the crown of the tooth, it could be infected. Infections come from decay or trauma although there can be a combination of endoperio. If you want a difinitive answer, i recommend a dental appointment to be sure.
