Be reluctant: Remember that a call to 911brings an ambulance; the ride to the hospital is very expensive, besides huge emergency room charges. So, if one is not injured, and has only one convulsion, instead contact your neurologist and have your meds adjusted. However, if there are breathing problems, such as an aspiration (rare), bad back pain (vertebral fracture), or prolonged recovery, need attention.

Call 911: If you do not know the first aide principles for treating people having a seizure, call immediately. If a seizure lasts more than 2 minutes, call 911, as most seizures are shorter than that. If there is any question of compromised breathing call 911. If there is any indication of injury that might compromise the individual, call 911 immediately.
