Pneumothorax: Your lung has a continuous small leak. Thus let's the air leak out into the chest. Once the air is in the chest it inhibits your lung from working correctly because it takes up the space the lung would use. Most resolve with chest tube drainage of the air. Some don't and they require surgery to seal the persistent leak.

Bleb or leak: Question not completely clear. Sounds like your doctor is referring to a "persistent air leak". Alternatively, you may have blebs that are causing "recurrent pneumothorax". Either condition would generally be treated with vats, small wedge resections, and mechanical pleurodesis.
