Persistent UTI or No: For a UTI in a young woman, a short course of antibiotics should get rid of the infection. However, post-uti swelling can cause ongoing discomfort. Like a bruise after trauma, it will take time for the inflammation to go away; in the meantime, increase h2o, reduce caffeine/alcohol intake and avoid spicy/acidic foods to reduce irritation. Use nsaids and see md if not better in 3-4 days.
