Closely examine: Bruising, swelling, pain on motion and feeling for any localized area of severe pain to touch could be the signs of fracture, as well as bleeding underneath the nail of the toe. If need to make sure, see a physician for an exam and xrays, as on occasion they need to be fixed or the fracture fragment removed.

Xrays and evaluate: See your local podiatrist because you'll need xrays to determine if you have a broken toe. Good luck.
