Possible fracture: If you see a podiatrist or orthopedic surgeon they will physically examine you, obtain a medical history and get x-rays. The x-rays will show if there is a fracture.

X-ray: Nothing can surely be determined unless a picture is taken of what is going on inside. Therefore, an x-ray is mandatory in this case.
