X-ray: It is possible that you might have bumped the toe during sleep. If the toe continues to hurt after another 24 hours, i would suggest getting an x-ray.

Yes.: Oftentimes whether you have swelling or bruising does not correlate with whether the foot is fractured or not. You need an x-ray.
