Get an x-ray: To know for sure, u need an x-ray. You could also try to touch your toe with the end of a vibrating tuning fork. I warn you, if it is broken ... It will hurt like heck.

XRAY: The only way to tell for sure is with an x-ray. Signs of a fracture would include pain and swelling and stiffness around the fracture site.

X-ray : I agree with dr buford. Most fractures of the toes require minimal treatment as long as there is no clinical deformity. What you want to avoid however is an unrecognized dislocation which can require surgery if not treated promptly.
