It is also possible that this thyroid nodule may be pushing or invading a nerve (recurrent laryngeal nerve or external branch of superior laryngeal nerve) that controls your vocal cords. This can cause weakness or paralysis of your vocal cords leading to a change in your singing voice or speaking voice. If you have this concern, you should see an ear, nose, & throat (ENT) doctor).

What is a circumscribed thyroid nodule exactly?

Dr. Susan Wingo answered
Endocrinology 33 years experience
It depends: Circumscribed, on an ultrasound report, describes how distinct the border is between the nodule and the normal thyroid tissue. It would usually be preceded by "well" for nodules with sharp outlines, or "poorly" for nodules with blurred outlines.

A 53-year-old member asked:
What is a hypoechoic thyroid nodule exactly?
4 doctor answers • 18 doctors weighed in

Dr. Susan Wingo answered
Endocrinology 33 years experience
Fewer echoes on US: Hypoechoic describes the appearance of a nodule on ultrasound (us). It refers to a nodule that reflects back fewer sound waves compared to the normal thyroid tissue around it. While most thyroid cancers are hypoechoic, most hypoechoic nodules are not cancers. But a hypoechoic nodule may have a slightly higher risk of being a cancer than other nodules.
