Help! visiting psychiatrist for the first time today. what can i expect?

HELP: You can expect help. A psychiatrist can only know what you tell him. So tell him why you really are going and make it clear enough so he can understand what's happening to you and why. This may take some time. You help him help you. Don'twaste time worrying about him disapproving.

Psychiatry: An initial 45 to 60 min interview, with questions about your identifying information, presenting symptoms, past psych hx, family medical and psych hx, past medical hx, allergy hx. Past hx of self harm or assaults, social hx, developmental hx, mental status exam, diagnosis, treatment reccommendations and prognosis.

Psychiatric eval: 1st apt with psychiatrist you will be asked about: details of your symptoms, their development, treatment; changes over time;& how life experiences have been effected as a result. Also ?'s of any other symptoms, drug/etoh use, other medical illnesses, med allergies, current medications, illnesses in your extended family, your growing up experiences, education, work, relationships, & current life.
