Find the strenghts: Search for the neurotic areas (those that make the borderline feel uncomfortable about themselves and their behavior) and help them work on those issues. Those are their areas of strength. Other psrts of the personality are "ego syntonic" meaning they think they are ok and others are wrong about them. It is very hard to change those areas.

Symptom management: I usually focus on symptom management. Feelings of instability or intense emotionality are of primary concern. Relationship goals are closely related to the expressed symptoms.

DBT: Dbt, or dialetic behavioral therapy, formulated and developed by marsha linehan, pH.D. Is currently though of as being very effective. Just about the biggest goal of this kind of therapy for this kind of disorder is to maintain boundaries.
