APD: The causes of antisocial personality disorder are unknown. Genetic factors and child abuse/neglect are believed to contribute to the development of this condition. Children with an antisocial or substance abusing parent are at increased risk. Many mental health experts believe the disorder develops because of a combination of genetic and environmental influences.
