Yes: Any stone in the ureter is dangerous. It is a surgical emergency if you have a fever. There are drugs your doctor can give you to help pass a 5 mm stone. If you have a fever, uncontrolled vomiting or pain, get help immediately.

Not if it passes: Many 5mm ureteral stones can pass spontaneously. Only becomes problematic if urine becomes infected or stone obstructs ureter. Hope you are seeing a urologist. Odds are that you will be fine even if intervention is indicated. Good Luck
