A member asked:

Are natural remedies for hyperlipidemia safe?

9 doctors weighed in across 3 answers

What remedies?: "natural" remedies may be safe, yet ineffective. Hyperlipidemia can take many forms and you need to consult your doctor to determine the best treatment for you. It is important to treat it even if you no symptoms. Prevention is better than treating disease caused by hyperlipidemia.

Hyprlipidemia: Natural remedies are increase fiber in your diet, omega 3, flaxseed, and nicotinic acid.Except for nicotinic acid which in therapeutic dose is a prescription drug and needs monitoring your liver funstions and causes flushing, the others are safe to take.Omega three some brands can give you a fishy breath.

Lifestyle: My two colleagues have advised you well. Nothing you can buy in a "health store" will help you with lipids / overall health nearly so much as going out and exercising, and eating sensibly.
