Not in my experience: The hysterosalpingogram (hsg) is performed with the patient fully conscious and cooperative. Sometimes the results are discussed with the patient in the procedure room, looking at the fluoroscopic images on the in room monitor.

Usually not: The procedure is doen under the care of a radiologist. Sometimes a sedative is offered if the patient is very nervous, but is usually not needed.
