Celexa (citalopram): Don't know what dose of Celexa (citalopram) you are on. If you are on low dose just stopping is usually fine. Larger doses for longer periods of time require taper. What did your physician recommend? Ssri discontinuation syndrome can cause: irritability, dizziness, electric shock sensations, anxiety, confusion, headache, lethargy, & insomnia. Stopping meds too early can cause recurrence of symptoms.

Should be ok: Celexa (citalopram) is usually stopped gradually, to minimize the chance of side-effects. The supervising doctor should explain exactly how to do this. Depending on the dose and how gradually the med is stopped, there may be side-effects such as body aches, general ill feeling, and in unusual cases shock-like feelings in the head or back. All tend to improve by themselves.
