Benzodiazepines: Lorazepam is also known as ativan (lorazepam). Valium's generic name is diazepam. Both are used for sedation and anxiety. Valium has also been for muscle spasms. Lorazepam gets out of your system quicker and may be safer for older people. I assume by std you mean starting dose. 2mg is a typical starting dose for each. They are often take 2-3 times a day.
