Very difficult state: Elderly patients with multiple medical problems particularly those in nursing home are prone to repeated infection. Aspiration pneumonia can come from swallowing problem or altered state of mental state . Uti is very common among women and those who have indwelling catheter are at high risk . It is a very difficult situation to be in and i sympathize with you and your family.

Aspiration pneumonia: I would say your mother, with an aspiration pneumonia, belongs in a hospital for treatment and evaluation. Have her brought to an er to see if she is sick enough to be admitted.
