The major test buds are in the posterior part of the tongue. They are called circumvallate papillae and number from 8 to 14.

Usually normal: Red bumps at the back of the tongue can be normal anatomy . If they are enlarged, then diet or hygiene can be an issue. See a provider to get a differential diagnosis.
