Hiatal hernia?: Without seeing and examining you impossible to truly ascribe this pain to the hernia, but if it is it may be related to reflux disease and something which lowers the acidity may help. The best thing to do is to go back and see the doctor who diagnosed the hiatal hernia and let them make an assessment and treat this.

Stop smoking: You are 42 have a hiatal hernia and note throat and neck pain. If you can stop smoking it would be helpful. Sit up after meals, do not eat close to bed time. Record things that make your pain worse and avoid them. Smoking overall hurts our health and will prevent food from getting through the stomach.
