Corpus luteum forms: From an ovarian follicle after ovulation occurs to produce Progesterone for the support of an early pregnancy, should one occur. Progesterone stimulates the endometrium (uterine lining) to grow and be maintained if pregnancy occurs. If no pregnancy, the luteum decays after about 14 days.
