The most common causes would be depression, either unipolar or bipolar, a mixed mood state, current or past stressors, severe anxiety or agitation, and even obsessive compulsive disorder or ptsd.

Suicide as coping: You could be using suicide as an option for solving life problems for which you know no other solutions. Or, your dreams may express feelings you have based on earlier life experiences. Or still other possibilities. Working with a skilled psychologist or other psychotherapist may help you deal with these issues. Dialectical behavioral therapy may add in other needed life skills too. Be well.
