Early detection: There is only one widely used marker for prostate cancer which is psa. Prostate cancer is a potentially devastating disease that is best managed when caught early, a benefit for screening. Prostate cancer in its early stages generally causes no symptoms and thus may only be detected with a blood test or rectal exam. Debate, however, exists for which men should undergo treatment.

PROSTATE: The disease you speak of is prostate cancer. The marker is prostate specific antigen. There are other more sensitive markers out there now. Anyone with a father/uncle who has been diagnosed with prostate cancer before the age of 65 has a family history. African americans have a higher risk of more aggressive disease. It is the 3rd most common cancer in men.
