A member asked:

My husband (33 years old) non-smoker, coughs only in mornings and at nights which leads to vomiting. what could it be?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Any number of things: Allergic problems, and in particular sinus trouble, leads to phlegm (sputum) pooling in the back of the throat and sometimes being aspirated in the early morning, leading to coughing. I note he consumes alcohol - how much? If more than 2 drinks, and after 8 pm or so, it can be contributing to the problem. He should see his health care provider. Heavy coughing often leads to vomiting.
