Number one cause: Of back pain in your age group is sedentary life style causing chronic spasm of psoas (tenderloins) muscles and loading of facet joints (between vertebrae). See a doctor for a physical exam and hopefully a referral to a good physical therapist who can address your postural imbalance and core weakness. Your doctor will determine whether x rays or an MRI is appropriate based on physical exam finding.

Xrays will not prob: Not answer your question. Low back pain without radicular symptoms (tingling or pain down the legs) is often biomechanical. Please see your doctor for a complete history and physical. Assuming no surprises there, you will likely benefit from physical therapy - stretching, strength training (including abdominal muscles) as well as learning proper lifting and motion techniques.
