Yes: The severe depression is one of the two poles in bipolar disorder. The other end of the pole is mania or hypomania (when someone might be elated, agitated, impulsive, with high energy level & ^ productivity). A person may vacilate between depressed and manic/ hypomanic periods. They may have normal periods in between (or not). Mixed mood is also possible.
