Anxiety disorders: Anxiety is usually a symptom of chronic stress or depression. If depression is present, it should be treated, either with counseling or medication. Other conditions that can be associated with anxiety are an overactive thyroid gland, certain drugs (speed), medications (ssris), and foods (caffeine). Non-drug approaches can be very helpful--meditation, counseling, muscle relaxation, and exercise.
