Variant Angina: Variant angina, also known as prinzmetal's angina, occurs in about 2-10% of angina patients and can be overlooked by cardiologists who stop testing after ruling out typical angina. Unlike typical angina, which is caused by atheroscleroisis, variant angina is caused by spasm of the coronary arteries, thereby decreasing blood flow to the heart.
