Blood group and....: ....Thalassemia are two different things. If both parents have the genetic trait for thalassemia, then the baby can get it. If neither parent has the trait for thalassemia, then the baby can't get it. If one parent has the genetic trait, then the baby has a 50% chance of getting the genetic trait.

Cannot tell : Blood type has no relationship to thalassemia. Thalassemias ( 2 major types, Alpha and beta) are genetic conditions that lead to decreased production of Alpha or beta globin protein that leads to varying degrees of anemia. You and your partner can be tested for beta thalassemia trait with blood tests. Alpha-thalassemia trait is more difficult to test for, but is possible with blood testing..
